Canvas: Recording Video for a Discussion Post

The Discussion tool within Canvas allows you to use formatting, add links, and even embed video.  The directions below show you how you can record a short video for your discussion post.  Video instructions are also provided.

Click on Discussions from the course menu on the left and then into the appropriate discussion.

Review the discussion instructions and click the blue Reply button.

Topic: Introduce Yourself - Google Chrome

Click the Upload/Record Media button in the toolbar denoted by an icon with a play button and two music notes and then select Upload/Record Media from the pull-down menu.

Here is an enlarged image of the icon.

The Upload Media window defaults to the Computer tab to all you to upload a previously created a video (e.g. using your cell phone or Adobe Express).  Click on the Record tab.

Your browser should prompt you to Allow the use of your webcam and microphone.  This will look slightly different depending on the browser you are using as well as what kind of computer you are using but the screenshot below shows Chrome version 126 on a Windows laptop.

Click The Start button.  You will be given a countdown of 3.

Click the blue Finish button when you are done with your recording.

If needed, you can Preview the recording and/or click Start Over to re-record. Provide a File Name if you are happy with the recording and click the green Save Media button.

The video will be embedded in your post and you can click the blue Reply button towards the bottom right.
