Adding Lynda Content

You can incorporate Lynda content into your Blackboard course in a number of ways:

  • Link directly to a specific Lynda course
  • Link to a playlist of Lynda content which can include specific modules and/or multiple courses.
You can enable Blackboard Grade Center integration which will report student completion of the specified playlist.

First navigate to the menu area where you would like the Lynda content to appear such as Assignments.  From the Build Content menu, select Web Link.

Optional - Enter a description.

Optional - Add attachments if needed.  You can select one of the Browse options to locate, select, and open a file or drag the file into the area marked by the dashed lines (area will become highlighted in purple).

Optional - By default, the link will be immediately visible to students.  You can select No to hide the item completely or use the Display After and/or Display Until date and times if you want to limit student access to the link to a specific window of time.

Click Submit.

IMPORTANT: If you have an existing Lynda.com account and want to migrate your history to your new Rutgers account, you will be prompted to do so the first time that you've launched Lynda through Blackboard.  This will be the only opportunity you have to transfer your Lynda.com history.

Link to a Playlist of Lynda content. Playlists will allow you to select specific modules within a course and/or incorporate multiple courses. If you enable the Blackboard Grade Center integration, student completion of the playlist will be reported in a Grade Center column.

First navigate to the menu area where you would like the Lynda content to appear such as Assignments.  From the Build Content menu, select Web Link.

Enter a Name and the URL https://www.lynda.com/portal/lti/playlist.  Check the "This link is a Tool Provider" option.

Optional - If you want to track the students' progress through the playlist, you can select Yes for Enable Evaluation and enter Points Possible. A new column will automatically be created in the Grade Center and the students' completion will be displayed.  You can also assign a Due Date.

Click Submit.

Click  on the playlist link that you've just created to launch Lynda.

IMPORTANT: If you have an existing Lynda.com account and want to migrate your history to your new Rutgers account, you will be prompted to do so the first time that you've launched Lynda through Blackboard.  This will be the only opportunity you have to transfer your Lynda.com history.

Click Create new playlist button towards the top right.

Enter a Name and optional Description and click Create button.

Use the Search option at the bottom right to locate the Lynda courses that you want to include in your playlist.

Click the plus (+) next to each Lynda course that you would like to add to your playlist.

They will now appear at the top in your playlist. Use the trash can icon to the right if you need to remove a course.

You can disable sections within a Lynda course by expanding the course and then clicking the minus (-) icon to the right.  For example, because Blackboard uses NetID for login, the forgotten password is not relevant.

Disabled content will appear greyed out.  If needed, click the plus (+) icon to enable content.

Return to list of Playlists.

Click Link to LMS button.

When the link is complete, LMS will appear next to the title and Remove Link to LMS will be displayed as an option.

Return to Blackboard and enter Student Preview mode and test the playlist.
